Model of the Moment: Binx Walton

Dubbed as a models.com “Top 50 Model”, a look like no other model, and a number of campaigns ranging from DKNY to Chanel speaking to her versatility, it’s no surprise that this season Binx Walton has already faced the campaigns of six brands (Tom Ford, Coach, Hugo Boss, Alexander Wang, Fendi, and DKNY) and walked in the Maison Margiela and Chanel AW15 Haute Couture shows. Take a look at the slideshow below to see Binx’s first month of 2015:

After coming off a strong Spring 15 season last September, appearing in a number of shows including Chanel, Narciso Rodriguez, and 3.1 Phillip Lim, and already appearing on the Paris Haute Couture runways for both Givenchy and Chanel, it is no surprise that Canadian-Eritrean beauty, Grace Mahary would land a campaign for this season. Check out the Lem Lem looks modeled by Grace from the Resort 2015 lookbook below:

Joan Smalls – The Face of Fashion Spring 2015?

For the past four years, It seems like just about every major catwalk, campaign, and calendar has featured the gorgeous Puerto Rican model, Joan Smalls. This year is no different. It isn’t even February yet, and we have already seen the supermodel walk the Givenchy Men’s show, the Atelier Versace and Chanel Haute Couture shows, and also face the Spring/Summer campaigns for Balmain, Marc Jacobs, and Prabal Gurung. Will there be an ad campaign that this woman won’t front, or a show that she will not walk this season? I hope not! I can’t get enough! Check the slideshow below for a small taste of Joan’s January 2015:

FKA Twigs Covers V Magazine

Blowing up street style blogs and magazine covers, while being hailed as one of fashion’s freshest style icons of today, FKA Twigs has proved that she has what it takes to be noticed. But good style can only take you so far. Since she burst onto the entertainment scene in 2012 as a singer, Twigs has reached international fame by proving that she’s more than a pretty voice with good sense of fashion. Twigs not only directs her own music videos, but also writes and produces her own songs. FKA Twigs discusses growing up, working hard, and her most recent album titled LP1 in February’s issue of V Mag (which she serves as creative director of the article). Check out the spread in the slideshow.

Mona Matsuoka for Kenzo SS15

“Kenzo would like to remind you there is no planet B. Please protect what is precious,” announced an avatar in a number of different languages during the Kenzo Spring/Summer 2015 collection debut last September. It is only fitting that the corresponding ad campaign sticks to the planet theme. Photographed by Pierpaolo Ferrari, the campaign features the Spring collection modeled by Mona Matsuoka in front of a backdrop of our precious planet. Imaan and Mica for Givenchy SS15

Last Fall,  Mica Arganaraz was the breakout star of the season, starring in Prada’s Fall 2014 campaign.  After appearing in several spring runway shows, it was a given that we would be seeing more of the Argentian supermodel this season.  She joins 18 year old, Imaan Hammam in the Spring 2015 campaign for Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci shot by superduo Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott. Stella Lucia & Alessio Pozzi join the two rising supermodels for the shoot. Checkout the campaign photos along with the runway looks in the slideshow below:

Jourdan Dunn Breaks the “Vogue UK” Diversity Drought to Kick of 2015

It’s a new year, and it seems that “Vogue UK” is turning over a new leaf by making Jourdan Dunn the first cover model of the year. Although the British bombshell has been modelling for over seven years and all of her British model contemporaries (Cara Delevigne, Georgia May Jagger, Kate Upton,  and Freja Beha) have all covered the magazine at least once, before this issue, Dunn wasn’t able to boast the same accomplishment. On Friday, Dunn’s post on Instagram stated “I’m so Happy to finally say I’M ON THE COVER OF BRITISH VOGUE!!! Thank you @britishvogue ,Patrick Demarchelier and Kate Phelan for making this happen and also thank you all for the Love and Support it means everything to me #2015YearOfTheDunn”

While covering the magazine is a feat in its own right, it should also be noted that Jourdan Dunn is the first African-American model to grace the cover solo in the last twelve years. (Naomi Campbell was the last black model to cover the glossy in 2002.) A couple of days ago, Vogue UK posted their 2014 cover stars on Instagram, and surprisingly, there wasn’t one model of color on the list. I hope that this cover is just the beginning of a more representative 2015 cover season for all of the fashion glossies!

Burberry’s Spring 2015 Dream Team: Naomi + Jourdan

For the past few seasons, Burberry’s ad campaigns have stopped the presses. Earlier this spring, Burberry unveiled a beauty campaign with its first ever Indian model (Neelam Gill). This past September, Burberry unveiled its steamy fragrance campaign featuring legendary supermodel, Kate Moss next to “It” supermodel, Cara Delevigne. This season is no different – Yesterday evening, Burberry announced a new duo to front the Spring/Summer 2015 ad campaigns: Iconic supermodel Naomi Campbell and “It” supermodel Jourdan Dunn.

Shot by Mario Testino, this is the first time the two supermodels, both of which  are among fashion’s most famous black models, have worked together. In the ad, which will launch globally in January 2015, Naomi and Jourdan are photographed in Burberry’s bold pink and turquoise trench coats – under the direction of Christopher Bailey, Burberry chief creative and CEO. “Naomi and Jourdan – two great British icons, two strong, beautiful women and the two perfect faces for our new campaign. It is, as always, a real privilege to work with them,” said Christopher Bailey.
